Atlanta Cardiac and Thoracic Surgical Associates is a recognized leader in the use of minimally invasive thoracic surgical techniques including video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), robot-assisted thoracic surgery, brachytherapy and laser bronchoscopy. The practice started performing minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedures in 1989. Dr. Moore performed one of the first thoracoscopic pericardiectomies in 1989 and the practice was one of the first to place external pacemaker leads thorascopically in the 1990's.
Our physicians have trained extensively to provide minimally invasive lobectomies through two to three small incisions, and also offer stereotactic radiotherapy and radiofrequency ablation for tumors that are not amenable to surgery.
For patients with certain types of esophageal and lung cancers, an innovative, minimally invasive laser-based treatment option is available. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) allows the destruction of cancer cells through light-sensitive drugs and a visible light beam.
